| Since August 1999, Tradelink had been providing the EDI service for CO, which allows exporters and manufacturers to prepare, sign and submit CO applications directly from an ordinary desktop PC. The full migration to Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) service for Certificate of Origin (CO) was implemented in September 2000.
The service allows customers to apply electronically to Trade and Industry Department or one of the five Government Approved Certification Organisations (GACOs) for Certificate of Origin and Certificate of Hong Kong Processing (CP), which are required for most textiles exports to European community markets.
The COs/CPs can also be amended, resubmitted or cancelled electronically, wherever this is permitted under Trade and Industry Department rules.
The five Government Approved Certification Organisations (GACOs) include the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong, Federation of Hong Kong Industries, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong. Customers simply need to select their preferred issuing organisation from a pull-down list when compiling the application, and Tradelink will do the rest.
